Who Keeps This Ledger

A small kitchen, a paper notebook and a habit of buying the one fruit at the stall nobody else will touch.

Cometmangohangoucr started as an actual ledger: a cloth-bound notebook carried through markets in Bangkok, Penang, Hanoi, Mexico City and south London. Every strange fruit got a line: where it was bought, what it cost, what it smelled like, what the flesh did in the mouth, and whether it was worth buying again. After a few years the notebook was full of exactly the information we had never found online.

This site is that ledger, opened up. We write for curious home cooks who want to know what something tastes like before they spend money on it, and what to do with it afterwards.

How we work

TastingBought, never gifted
RecipesCooked 3+ times
SponsorsNone

We buy everything ourselves. We don't accept free produce, paid placements or affiliate commissions, so no fruit gets a kinder review because someone sent it in a nice box. Recipes are cooked at least three times in an ordinary home kitchen before they appear here. Facts about origin, season and botany are checked against agricultural and botanical references, and we update pages when readers point out errors.

What we are not

We aren't nutritionists or doctors, and nothing here is health advice. If you have allergies, take medication or are unsure whether a food is safe for you, ask a qualified professional. Some foods on this site, like cherimoya seeds or raw jackfruit latex, need care; we flag those clearly.
